Ulavacharu Horse Gram Flour

Millet Time’s Organic Horse Gram flour Vulava Pindi. Called as Vulava Pindi in Telugu. Horse gram is indeed a superfood, owing to its immense nutritive values and fitness benefits. Instructions to cook:

To make this recipe, you’ll need : Ulavalu/ Horse gram – 100g (Indian dessert bowl), Onion – 1, Green Chilies – 2, Tamarind – 40g, Red chili powder – 3 teaspoons, Turmeric -1/4th teaspoon, Asafoedita (hing) – 1/4th teaspoon, Salt – 2 1/2 teaspoons (or) to taste
For Tempering :

Oil – 2 teaspoons, Garlic cloves – 5, Onion – reserved from the previous step, Urad dal – 1 teaspoon, Red chili – 3 nos, Curry leaves – 1 sprig, Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

1.Extract the tamarind juice with enough water.

2.Add half of the onion (sliced) and slit green chilies.

3.To this add red chili powder, turmeric, and salt. Give it a good mix.

4.To this add the horse gram flour and mix well ensuring no lumps are formed. Add 4 glasses of water. Cook on the low flame, while stirring continuously until thickens. (For about 5 to 8 mins).

5.Tempering : To a tempering pan, add oil, once the oil is hot add, mustard seeds, urad dal, garlic cloves, onions, curry leaves, and dried red chilies.

6.Add this tempering to the cooked kattu and taste, adjust seasonings if necessary, and serve hot. This will turn thick as it cools.
